Ok so i was one of the people who who got scammed by a person on Craigslist. I basiccly got F*cked out of 8,000 dollars. Now i have collectors calling me. They said they could work out a payment plan for me... Will this ruin my credit score if i pay it off making small payments? Is my credit unsavable? I'm only 20 and my credit score is about 700ish, so i don't want it to hurt my credit. But i only make about $300 a week, not to mention rent and college tuition, there is no way i can pay that off in a short period of time... I guess my main quesion is if i pay if off slowly over a period of like 2-3 years... does it hurt my credit, and if so by how much should i expect it to drop.?

Ask the agency how they handle payment plans. Specifically, ask that if you set up a payment plan and continually make payments in a timely manner, will they not credit report your debt. Some will comply with your request, some won't. It also depends on your payment plan amount. If it's large enough, some of them might comply with your request.
Most likely the debt will show up on your credit report as a collection account, unfortunately. Is there a way you can borrow the money from your folks and then pay them back to help save your credit?
One key piece of advice is to be very nice to the agency. They will be more helpful to your plight if you're polite and very sincere.
Your credit is in trouble any way you look at it. THis way you are on record and clearing the problem. Ignoring it just leaves it on the record.
If you make all the payments on time, and it is a collection agency that is collecting from you, you shouldn't drop more than 50 points. And that is aggressive. If it isn't a collection agency, but actually just the person or company you owe, as long as you make your payments the worst that could happen would be maybe 10 points. If it is new credit, and not a collection agency, you might actually get a higher score.
IT SHOULD NOT HURT IF YOU MAKE THE PAYMENTS. IF YOU WERE SCREWED ISN'T THEIR SOMETHING ELSE YOU CAN DO LIKE SUE THEM FOR SCREWING YOU OVER. MAKE SURE IT'S A LEGIT CREDITOR. CALL HE SPONSORS OF CRAIG'S LIST GIVE THEM THE DETAILS THEY MAY BE ABLE TO HELP YOU.

I would try going to your local bank and explaining the situation if they will give you the loan to pay off talk to the collection agency and see if you pay it off in one payment if they will take it off your report. Then when you make payments to the bank it will help your revolving credit. If the bank will not go with you the payments will hurt a little but you can bring it back up just make sure the payment you set up is doable for you...and NEVER pay more or less than the agreed amount that sends flags up, even if you can afford more one month. I can answer your question by explaining what I have been through with credit in the states, where a persons worth is measures by his credit, it seems.
When I arrived in the states 5 years ago from the UK, My credit score didn't come with me so I had to start at 400.
On top of which I needed to get a credit card, or store card to start building credit, but couldn't get them approved because of my credit score.catch 22.
On top of all this, I am paying my wife's debt from her college days.
Only 5 years later my credit is almost 800. I did it by getting a couple of 'easy to get' credit cards like Capital One who are terrible companies and have an annual fee, but it was enough to get up to the next level where I could then get store cards. Having a small balance each month while paying at least the minimum payment each month is the ideal..credit score wise. Not paying them off, or having high balances, but having a slight balance and NEVER miss a payment. Keep asking for credit limit increases and after you get more established with higher limits on some credit cards, close some store cards and other cards so you don't have too much open, that can also bring down your score.
You want to minimize the amount of inquiries creditors check your credit because each one stays on your credit for two years and brings down your score every time (despite what other people may tell you).
Pay at least the minimum each month and your score WILL NOT do down 1 point. Just go to annualcreditreport.com to get your free credit report and make sure it's accurate and it will tell you more areas where you can improve your credit.

Will I still have a criminal record?
I was charged with asssault at the age of 19. I am now 40 years old. Will this show up if I apply for an immigration criminal record check?

Will i lose my drivers license in north carolina for a ticket written in south carolina for 84 in a 70?

Speeding does not make you lose your license unless you have multiple tickets and a court orders the suspension. First ticket no biggie, 10th.you may have some problems.
Not as long as you pay it. If you don't it will eventually show up and you NC license will be suspended.
If you don't pay it SC will give you the max, court costs and possibly a failure to appear. but w. 14 over this is rare. So later you have to pay all of this anyway.
And if you don't you will probably find out later in a traffic stop because it can take time for it to catch up. Then you have a driving on suspended and will have to pay reinstatement fees and all of that. If you have prior tickets in NC they may tow your car in that case. If you are driving in say VA and the unpaid ticket shows for SC you could have some issues.
My point is that if you paid it you will have no worries. If you have not or even have missed the court date contact them and ask what to do. So many things can happen otherwise from a simple speeding ticket.
Years ago I had a simple (6 miles over) in Delaware in but was a Virginia resident. I didn't pay it. 7 YEARS later I was driving to the beach in Maryland and got pulled over. I then found out that Virginia had just suspended my license for the Delaware ticket. Then me in handcuffs, charged with suspended, and girlfriend driving behind for me to go to police station. The magistrate released me but I had to pay for suspended later, got the points, insurance went up and... the original ticket for $50 was now $350.
But again if you paid it... no biggie.

Will I get hired at the Federal Prison?
I applied to be a correctional officer at a federal prison. HR told me that they will do a Background check on me which includes, checking my driving record. My license have been suspended before and I have had traffic tickets. Will This affect me from getting the job? I haven't had any tickets in 3 years. I have no Points on my license either.

We got on the train this morning with valid tickets, but we sat in the First Class.Then two staffs came to check the ticket and told us our tickets are not valid in the First Class so we have to pay 20 pounds fine each. We said we can leave, but they insisted that we have to pay. I'm sorry about the situation you found yourselves in. When one purchases a ticket, it is understood where the person would then be seated. The section, seat number, etc. are on the ticket. When boarding one should ask to be directed to the correct seat paid for. If there are no signs posted, you can always find an attendant to talk to. After you were told that you were seated in the wrong section, you should have been allowed to go to the correct seats you paid for without anyone mistreating you. If I were you, I'd contact the company you bought the tickets from and get information as to the proper procedure to lodge a complaint against the persons who were responsible for the misunderstanding. Please don't feel that everyone is racist against visitors from other countries. There are some of us who do not treat visitors from other countries badly. If necessary, contact an attorney and I wish you luck and hope this is resolved to your satisfaction.

It is highly unlikely that any action will be taken against you. If you believe that you were wrongly fined then you need to take this up with the Government Department which deals with the train in which you were travelling. I doubt very much if the Ticket inspector would have any chance of taking you to court over your calling them racist, and it is most difficult to sue for slander. I would seriously take the matter up with the Train authorities. If you explain your situation to them and you can show that you innocently sat in the First class and were not intentionally trying to defraud then you may have your fine refunded to you. In most cases they are very good and do try to help in matters where tourists from abroad are concerned. They want to promote a good impression of the Railway system here. I would not worry about going to Gaol though, that would never happen. Good luck

In most cases they are very good and do try to help in matters where tourists from abroad are concerned. They want to promote a good impression of the Railway system here. Well, Dubya said that anyone born prior to 1950 had nothing to worry about. However, since HE said it, that makes it something to worry about.
Still, If you haven't paid into it, you can't collect, and I doubt this administration cares much for expatriates. Wait until the Dems come in in '08--maybe something good will happen then, who knows? I wouldn't bet the haus on it, though. . . .
