It seems everytime I am taking my SATs or filling out job applications, I don't have the option of filling in Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, or Arabic. Majority of the time I either fill in White or Other.
How is this even fair to me that I'm such a minority, I'm not even considered a minority. There are millions of people from the middle east and none of them can fill these in either. Why?
Answer:
It has to do with statistics in this country. While you're right that there are tens of millions of people of arab or many other ethnicities, they are simply not numerous enough in this country to be individually listed - otherwise you'd have a check box list that looks like the United Nations membership roster.
Also, some of the categories arose through various pieces of legislation that either protected a specific group or banned discrimination against it - leading employers to want to collect statistics as to how many people in that category were either applying or being hired.
cause you are considered white not by most people buy by this arbitrary scheme they have come up with.
or say ur african. if your close enough. they can't check anyway.
