Why is prostitution illegal?

Prostitution is dangerous and unchecked for VD precisely because it is illegal and therefore underground.

Nobody gets hurt. Why should a woman be restricted from performing a particular service in exchange for money if she wants to?

I am neither a prostitute, nor do I wish to obtain the services of one. I simply abhor laws that restrict human liberty based on prohibition-minded, holier-than-thou busybodies.

Let's be honest. Laws against prostitution are totally biased and have no real justification.
Answer:
Because the government can't tax it, same reason maryjane is illegal
Because of the US's puritanical beliefs.
AGREED. But, until it is legalized, I'm gonna arrest every one of them
because bitches are sluts and the law's an ***
Prostitution has existed since cavegirl figured out she could eat, too, if she let caveboy lay on her a few minutes.

Even the most restrictive societies haven't been able to eliminate it. It will NEVER be stopped.

The countrywould be far better served to accept it. Do as Nevada has done. have government supervised brothels. The women are tested weekly and safe. The men get what they want and the government gets revenue from an act they can never hope to stop anyway. That revenue can be used for other problems.

If a woman's body is hers and her choices are a private matter (abortion) why CAN'T she choose to rent her body for mutual pleasure and gain?
Prostitution is legal in parts of Nevada.
I am not a prostitute either but I totally agree with you. Prostitution is what I refer to as a victimless crime. Unless someone gets physically hurt, who's the victim? The prostitute got paid and the john got laid. Everyone walks away happy.
It's only illegal if your a regular citizen...

If you a congressman or other high ranking politician or high ranking military..it's just another perk of the job.

Just ask the D.C. Madam for that list of over 300 names of her clients in Washington.

there are two systems of justice remember ?

Everyone pays for sex one way or another... Either in cash or mental anguish.
i know one reason and that is because u can spread diseases and viruses like that and die
I actually agree, as long as the said pro, man or woman
went into this thru free choice.
As opposed to manipulated under age runaways/escaping an abusive homelife, feeding a habit and the list goes on.
I surpose where you live but in the UK prostitution is legal with certain conditions. A woman can "operate" from her home on her own but if there are more than 1 woman working from that address its then called a brothel, which is illegal. But I do agree that women should have certain rights and should be allowed to sell her own body if she so wishes. PS I hate pimps
Prostitution is illegal because it is only giving girls the wrong idea and it is very gross it spreads more stds.
there are places in the US where it is legal ... the 'bunny ranch' in Las Vegas for one

and plenty of places in large cities where the police 'look the other way'

and you've forgotten about the most overt and repressive form of prostitution = marriage

quite simply most people in the US are not intelligent or mature enough to deal with sex, so we hide it and pretend its not there
Prostitution in England is not illegal. Practically everything else to do with it is illegal but it is not, in itself and offence.
Primarily because some folks think its immoral.

Think about it though

Sex is the ONLY thing in this country you can give away at your will but be arrested for selling

PS cop seven 53----It is a sad fact, but MOST prositutes have MANY police officers for Johns.
If I take a woman out and spend $50 on a movie and dinner for her and we have sex, that's a one night stand.
If I give her $50 cash instead of the movie and dinner, then it's a crime.

I wonder if it's a crime if I give her a gift card instead of cash.

Doesn't make any sense to me.
