Why is our government so money hungry?

Why do they get 'bought out'? are some of them threatened physically or do they drop their heart in the bucket before traveling the Road to the White House?
Answer:
I see some very naive answers to this question. "the majority are honest"? "they take a pay cut"? "they are trying to help" Please!

These are the facts: THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU OR I. They are, to put it simply, 'ethical retards' and left their hearts by the wayside alot longer ago than the 'Road to the White House'. It is quite possible their 'hearts' were scooped out with that 'silver spoon' at a very early age.
Because it lines their pockets, up pretty good.
no president has ever been elected and received a pay raise. They all were paid a much higher salary in the private sector, and command a higher salary in the private sector after they leave office.
Bush has cut taxes, not raised them.

So, presidents are relatively low-paid, and this president has cut taxes. I am baffled as to where the basis of your argument is.
Its not the government, it is a few of the people that represent the government. The majority are honest people who represent their country with honor and integrity. But to some the money they are offered is too much to turn down.
I believe that it starts once they get to Washington, D.C. to be a Senator or Congressman. It starts when they want to become Governor of their state too. They get wined and dined by special interest groups to sway votes. They become intoxicated by the power that they have and they want more so they sell their sole to get more.
Only thing lower than a child molester is a politician....
I think there are alot of ppl. in the world that are money hungry, not just the government. I don't think that they get threatened. I don't know what being money hungry has to do with being threatened physically or dropping their hearts in a bucket.
i do not think physical harm is threatened; there is probably no need. if someone does not "play ball" they simply do not get the money from important people, and therefore will probably not get elected. it's really that simple. it takes so much money to run a campaign (i have heard estimates this year of half a billion dollars for each serious presidential candidate), one simply needs the corporate support to make a serious bid for the white house.
a lot of the US political system revolves around money.
far more than most european democracies. nothing better shows this than the seemingly dynastic nature of who has been and probably will be president
(Bush, Clinton, Bush,Clinton)

so whether you are standing for congress, presidency, or state governor you NEED money.
whereas in the uk your party will pay for your election funds, in the US you need to find the money yourself.

so unless you are very very rich, or know some very rich people, or make some promises to some very rich companies chances are you wont stand a chance in politics.
i was appalled when i studied the US political system because of how everything revolves around money and who you know/are.

all of this completely undermines the democratic process and leads to an elitist political landscape where only a priviledged few ever get the chance to take part.

a similar picture is beginning to take shae in the UK with cash for peerages and rich pressure groups such as CBI 'buying' the governments ear.

as to why...i dont know.
They have to sell themselves to get elected. You can see how much $$ it takes to run a campaign just from watching the candidates now. McCain, for example, is laying off campaign aides because he only collect 11 million this quarter.
