Why is methamphetamine becoming an epidemic?
Answer:
It has been an epidemic since the mid-80's
I'm just taking a guess as to what I've seen on those t.v. intervention shows...
1. Cheap
2. Can be made easily and quickly
3. Highly addictive
It is already an epidemic. Its very addictive and cheap to make.
becoming an epidemic? it already is.
It's not a new thing. Meth has been an epidemic on the west coast for years now. The drug's availability was just heavily confined near the west coast. It's said to be the most addictive drug out there and has a high that tops anything else available. The downside is that because of this high, people who use it can't ever find pleasure without it and will do anything to stay high. It's started to spread to the rest of the US and if the problems it caused on the West Coast are any indication, it could be ugly.
Methamphetamine is highly addictive and in most cases cheaper than other drugs with a quick high. But to keep that quick high you need to keep taking more and more of it.
Some of it is more expensive than others. The stuff you hear about being "cooked" in someone's kitchen isn't pure so it is cheaper but not as good of a high - it has impurities and it is hard to say what is all in it. The more expensive stuff is the pure rock or crystal meth which has been processed to have no impurities and is more expensive.
They are now starting to see flavored "strawberry" meth - called strawberry quick - this gets the attention of younger crowds just by its name.
It has been a problem for a lot of years. It is just starting to move more throughout the country.
I believe that there are two major factors. The first is that it is relatively easy to make, and therefore becomes a drug of choice for users and dealers as well. It is highly addictive so once you start, you must continue so you have repeat business. This is constant cash flow for the dealer which leads to the second part which is that we have lots of people that work minimum wage jobs or are unemployed. When you have no income to feed yourself and your family, you will do most anything. That is why there are so many people that are so desperate that they will do whatever they can to survive. That is the true epidemic, the total lack of resources and jobs for people to make a living in this great country. Until we address that, the epidemic of all drugs will continue.
i will tell you why...its easily to obtain..its highly addictive...easily made, and the worst problem, the law lets people in and out of jail for violating this drug..my younger brother has gotten arrested 4 times for meth and has served a total of 14 days in jail, whats his incentive to stop?? he dosnt fear the law because he will only do a few days and then he gets high again...its sad to see, once they get to a certain point, they loose touch with reality, they will lie, steal, anything to get what they think they need.
